Applied Behavior Analysis

A relational, compassionate approach to ABA

Southeast Psych Nashville offers Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services led by Elizabeth Marmande, BCBA. Elizabeth is a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst who brings warmth, clinical expertise, and a deep respect for the families she works with. She partners with children, teens, and their families to build meaningful skills and address the challenges that get in the way of learning, connection, and everyday life.

If you’ve been exploring ABA for your child—or if a provider has recommended it and you’re not quite sure what it involves—this page is a good place to start.

What Is ABA?

Applied Behavior Analysis is an evidence-based approach to understanding why behaviors happen and how to build new skills in their place. A BCBA looks at the whole picture—what’s happening before, during, and after a behavior—and designs a plan that’s tailored to each individual child.

ABA isn’t one-size-fits-all. It’s not about rigid compliance or making a child look a certain way. Done well, ABA helps kids communicate more effectively, navigate social situations, manage their emotions, and develop independence with daily routines—all in a way that honors who they are.

ABA is most commonly associated with autism spectrum disorder, but it can also be a strong fit for children and teens dealing with ADHD, developmental delays, emotional and behavioral challenges, and other situations where structured, individualized support can make a real difference.

Our Approach: The Relationship Comes First

There are a lot of ABA providers out there. What makes our program different is the same thing that makes Southeast Psych Nashville different across the board: we lead with the relationship.

Elizabeth practices a highly relational model of ABA—one built on trust, warmth, and genuine connection with every child and family. Meaningful progress doesn’t happen through rote drill work or behavioral checklists. It happens when a child feels safe, seen, and respected. That’s the foundation everything else is built on.

This also means that parents and caregivers aren’t on the sidelines. You know your child better than anyone, and Elizabeth works collaboratively with families every step of the way—coaching, problem-solving, and making sure the strategies that work in session also work at home, at school, and in the moments that matter most.

By using evidence-based ABA strategies such as breaking skills down into manageable steps, using prompts thoughtfully, and reinforcing success, Liz helps children learn in ways that feel natural, fun, and motivating. Her sessions are often filled with smiles, movement, and joy, because she knows that kids learn best when they are truly engaged.
